A rare opportunity is now available to commence Civil Construction Apprenticeship with Welding, with NextGen Jobs, and a leading government organisation, Melbourne Water. In this role, you will work within the Pipe Repair team to locate leaks, excavate around pipes and carry out repairs. Melbourne Water is a state government authority that manages Melbourne’s major water resources, including water storage, water supply, reliable sewerage, healthy waterways, and drainage and flood management. In this 3 year apprenticeship you will be based in the civil team within the Waterways and Catchment Operations division in Melbourne’s north east, completing a variety of duties, including but not limited to:

 

• Working in a team to locate maintenance and repair issues
• Civil construction duties such as excavation around assets to facilitate repair, using tools and plant equipment, and safety observing
• Repair of pipes and water mains including welding and some fabrication of parts
• Maintain site records, carry out measurements and plan and organise activities
• Compliance with Melbourne Water policies and procedures, including safety and environmental management policies
• Attendance at TAFE to simultaneously complete a Certificate III in Civil Construction, and Welding training

 

About You

• Genuine interest in the sector, working outdoors and Melbourne Water’s vision
• Welding experience will be highly advantageous, such as completion of a Certificate II in Engineering
• Interest in sustainable work practices
• Mechanical aptitude with an interest in hands on work
• Focused on building a long-term career
• Punctual, efficient, honest and reliable
• Ability to follow instructions
• Ability to work in a safe manner
• Relevant work, volunteer or study experience of a practical nature is beneficial
• A current driver’s license (or being close to obtaining one) is essential

While you are based at Melbourne Water worksites, NextGen Jobs, your legal employer, will provide you with a dedicated mentor (Field Officer) to help support and guide you throughout your apprenticeship. Regular visits in the workplace and at TAFE will take place to ensure you are developing the skills and knowledge you need and ensure have someone available when you have questions, challenges or just need to talk to someone.

You will earn an award wage as you complete your apprenticeship and become qualified. All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is supplied by Melbourne Water throughout your apprenticeship.

• National Police check
• Reference Checks (combination of professional and educational references will be accepted)
• Medical and Fitness Check clearance (physical – to meet the inherit requirements of the role)
